St JOHN'S YOUTH AT QUINTA

The weekend of 21st-23rd April nearly 50 children and young people went away for the weekend to the Quinta Christian Centre, near Oswestry. Here is a quick report of some of the things that we got up to…

Friday night began with a BBQ for all the young people and their families while everyone settled in and got to know the site. Then by 8pm we were straight into all our activities which included finding out about how David (our chosen theme for the weekend) was chosen by God. FUSION also played Capture the Flag in the dark with glow sticks, which was great fun! To end the evening we all had hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows before heading to bed. Before the leaders went to bed, Stuart led us in a meeting where we were able to open God’s word and pray together for the weekend ahead.

Saturday was an action packed day from start to finish! Amongst the many other activities, we also fitted in two opportunities to look at other events in David’s life and discovered that he was protected by God when he fought Goliath, but also sinned and was forgiven by God. FUSION spent the morning in the town of Oswestry and loved the opportunity to go to the sweet shop and spend time in the park! We also all worked with the St. John’s Creative Arts Team to produce our own musical instruments to remember that we can use music to praise God. Later in the afternoon everyone had a fantastic time in the swimming pool, expertly supervised by Delphine! All day the weather was fantastic and we all spent a lot of time enjoying the grounds. After our evening bible study we all settled down to watch a film together: Ground Breakers watched A Bug’s Life and FUSION watched The Incredibles. Finally, it was hot chocolate and bed, everyone was very tired and all had a good night’s sleep!

Sunday began with breakfast (this time including croissants!) before we were back into our bible study, this time looking at how David was a man after God’s heart. After this the whole group went on a walk around the countryside together. Again the weather was lovely and we were able to enjoy a break with chocolate biscuits in a sunny field. When we got back to site it was almost time for Sunday Lunch. By the time that we had finished our main course, lots of parents were already arriving, which meant that the weekend was almost over!

Overall, everyone had a brilliant weekend and it was great to see positive relationships developing within our groups. It was also lovely to see the young people getting involved in bible studies and finding out more the life of David and how we can use some of his examples in our own lives.

If you want to find out more about our weekend you can either read our more detailed blog at www.stjohnsfusion.wordpress.com or come along to our special All Age Service on Sunday 7th May where some of the leaders and young people will be telling the congregation about the weekend as well as premiering the Quinta 2017 Movie.

We are already looking forward to next year!

Thanks to everyone who helped on this fantastic weekend.
